The unnamed man had repeatedly refused his wife’s request to buy her beverage on the grounds he did not want her to have such drinks. But the wife rebuffed her husband’s claims, saying he has refused to buy her beverage and many other items because he is mean. “When the husband returned home one day, he found that his wife has bought a beverage can…he immediately divorced her,” Ajel newspaper said, quoting Dr Towfiq Murad, a family affairs instructor and Islamic affairs director at the Riyadh-based King Abdul Aziz University. Oil superpower Saudi Arabia, with a population of around 30 million, has one of the highest divorce rates in the world, averaging 82 divorces a day in 2012.
