Sharia is a codification of the Qur’an, the Hadith and the Sira. And this codification has become the guide for all the Muhammadan Muslims in every aspect of their lives. In other words, a framework to regulate public and private aspects of life based upon specific Islamic teachings. Sharia is a strict system which sanctions inequality between men and women and prescribes cruel and unusual punishments for crimes, and views non-Muslims (kufr) as second-class citizens and how to treat them as such. Sharia was codified in the 8th and 9th centuries. The term Sharia originally meant “the path to the watering hole,” meaning the path to God. the path to the watering hole, or the road to a watering place, or the way to the water source, the water source, in each case, symbolizing God. Alternate Spellings: shariah, shariah, sari’ah, shariat (the latter from Urdu and Peresian spelling. Please not there are some differences in the legal beliefs of the Sunni and Shia but they are considered minor. The goal of all of Islam is to control the world and implement Sharia.
