Sharing Zev Woodstocks earlier post: JMU STUDENTS: Did you know that $1,750 of your tuition money goes to the JMU Football program? 100$ of every students tuition goes to paying the INTEREST on the new stadium. Thats more than any other school in Virginia by a huge margin. Administrative members of JMU are pushing for increasing next years tuition to further fund the Football program (in hopes of eventually become a real D-1 Football school), and theyre doing a fantastic job of keeping the general student body in the dark about these facts. Personally, Ive been to one JMU Football game in my time here. That was the most expensive free ticket Ive ever paid for. Also, JMUs faculty hasnt received a pay raise or even a cost-of-living increase in SIX YEARS. So, perhaps that is the reason 58% of JMUs faculty is currently looking for other places of employment. This is pretty infuriating, and I think we should make more of a fuss about it. I dont want to pay for a football team that *might* be good 15 years after I graduate. (Information/statistics came from a Faculty Senate hearing, which my professor (Dr. Lubert) reiterated to my class this morning.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- JMU has privatized its endowments and budget for many years so students are unable to gain access to where the money is coming from and how it is being spent...even though we attend a public university. All the more reason to demand transparency
