Sharing a few photos from my archives. First photo is a poscard perfect view of Zanzibar, shot from the ferry, as it pulls into port after 4 hours sailing in from Dar-es-Salam . Zanzibar is a semi- autonomous part of Tanzania and as recently as the 19th century, Malindi in Zanzibar city was the main port for the export of slaves to the middle east. In the middle of the 19th century as many as 50,000 slaves were still being exported through Zanzibar to Arabia, Oman, Persia and the Red Sea. In Zanzibar today, you can still see monuements to the miserable slave trade such as the actual pits where slaves with chains around their necks were put in to be sold like animals. Today, the Stone Town in Zanzibar which is a world heritage site, is worth visiting. Its an excellent destination for photography, including all of Zanzibar itself.. ... Methinks I shall organize a photoSafari to Zanzibar in 2015, and include the wildebeest migration in Tanzanias Serengeti as the icing ....or should it be the other way round. Ill probably include the Ngorongoro Crater as well, to shoot lions, since we are already there. And Kilimanjaro. Ive already got two trips to Iceland from 23-21 March and 2-10 April firmed up. (two more places left for Iceland). Im finalizing Morocco including camping with the Berbers, and dune bashing in the Moroccon Sahara, finishing with a drive through the Grand Canyon of the Atlas mountains in the program. That will be from 1-14 May. Then weve got North Korea to say hello to Kim Jong Un from 30 May to 7 June. From 9-19 Sep Ive already hired a 10 berth schooner complete with its Mat Salleh crew, to sail around Greenland. Its going to be an Expedition, and not a luxury photosafari. Only the fit and the uncomplaining need apply. Well use the schooner as our floating hotel as we sail into otherwise inaccesible and isolated native settlements to shoot pictures of polar bears, whales, sea lions, musk oxen, eskimos, etc. Im also thinking of returning to Patagonia 21 Nov to 5th December, and in between, of course there will be those odd little trips to Bhutan, to Nepal, to the Everest Base Camp on the North Face in Tibet . Picture of the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, and yours truly at the Tres Torres National Park of Chile during a drive around South America passing through Patagonia in 2006 is attached. The mustache was still a youngish dark colour then. 2015 should be quite an interesting year.. So save your annual leave if you wanna join me all you up and rising Gypsetters . Life is a ball. Lets go kick it.
