Sharing from WHRS member Tom. Regarding the boycott of Whole - TopicsExpress

Sharing from WHRS member Tom. Regarding the boycott of Whole Foods (due to their planned sale of rabbit meat) - if youve not yet taken the time to call Whole Foods Milwaukee (414-223-1500), Id like to personally ask and suggest you seriously consider doing so. The call will only take 5 minutes - maximum - but that 5 minutes will be time well spent. Because there are fewer rabbit owners than, for example, dog or cat owners, each call from us matters all the more. Customer Service personnel at the store appear to have been somewhat prepared for our calls and provided certain talking points. Nonetheless, making sure your opinion is known is the only way to hopefully get Whole Foods to reconsider their decision. When I called, I was told things like the decision to carry rabbit meat was a corporate one, that the meat was sustainably produced, and that other cultures eat rabbit. In response, I told the employee my concern was what my local store was doing since that is where Ive spent my dollars, that sustainably produced rabbit would be no more acceptable to me than sustainably produced Cocker Spaniel would be to a dog lover, and that certain other cultures also cooked dog and cat, but I sincerely doubted Whole Foods would be carrying these in their meat case anytime soon. I indicated that, if I went to a restaurant to dine and found bunny on the menu, I would immediately leave that establishment. Likewise, finding bunny in the meat case of a store in which I shopped would instantly make me an ex-customer. The call can, of course, be as simple and straightforward as you wish. The point can be made quickly and be crystal-clear - if you sell rabbit meat, I will no longer shop at your store. I believe an E-Mail to Corporate is as important as a local call (if not more so). There is an on-line form that can be easily and quickly completed - no stamp required. The URL is: wholefoodsmarket/customer-service Heres what I wrote, just an example of one approach: ============ ==== To Whole Foods, I want you to know how disturbing I find it to learn Whole Foods is planning to sell rabbit meat. Many Americans (and I am certainly one of them) view rabbits as lovable pets, not their dinner, the very same as with dogs or cats. There is no good reason for Whole Foods to raise and then kill and butcher rabbits - none. Ive enjoyed shopping at Whole Foods since they first arrived in Milwaukee, but my relationship with your store is now coming to an end. I would NEVER eat at a restaurant that had bunny on the menu, and I will NOT shop at a food store that carries pet animals as meat. There are other better choices in Milwaukee. I consider your corporate decision to sell bunny meat as truly short-sighted and offensive. If, at some future time, you choose to reverse your decision, I will again consider doing business with your Milwaukee store. ============ ==== As we enter what is for many a 4 day holiday weekend, please consider taking a few moments to contact Whole Foods on this important subject...and please respectfully encourage your friends and family to do the same. Thank you, Tom Nielsen
