Sharing in the Nature and Life of God in Christ 1 It is unfortunate that a truth that many professing Christians find difficult to accept and personalize in their lives is the glorious truth that believers in Christ actually share in the nature and life of God in Christ. Many find it just too good to be true to consider themselves as no longer in the flesh or possessing their old nature of sin when they are born again of the Spirit. They find it unbelievable that they can completely let go of the old nature and put on the new nature, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. But the word of God declares this amazing truth through many promises of God in the Gospel. And so, sadly, what they do not realize is that by not accepting the truth of the promises of God they are made victims of the devil who has not ceased to try to deceive man into denying the truth of what God has said. In the Garden of Eden Eve was convinced by Satan that contrary to what God had said she would not surely die if she disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit. Today many of Eves descendants are convinced by the devil that they would not truly live or enter into Divine life if they obey the Gospel. And of course knowing that faith is the key that unlocks the door into experiencing the reality of any truth or promise of the word of God, these unbelieving professing Christians may not even realize that their lack of experiencing the reality of the nature and life of God in them is because of their unbelief and not because it is not possible. But let God be true and all human perceptions contrary to the word of God be lies. All the promises of God in Christ are Yes and Amen to the Glory of God. And God has promised us through many promises in the Gospel to destroy our old nature of sin and make us new creatures who share in His holy nature and life in Christ. Ephesians 4:17-24: “This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” 2 Peter 1:3-4: “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
