Sharing pretty extensively covered safety tips - Source - Chandrakanth Pujari Circle Police Inspector Chittapur-Wadi _______________________________________________________ HOME SAFETY TIPS Dear ladies /gentlemen, You go out of your home to meet friends, relatives and attend meetings/festivals/work. Criminals are aware of this fact and look for houses that are locked. So here are some things/tips you can do to protect your home. 1) Make your house look occupied. Temporarily stop daily mail/newspapers/milk pockets. Put timer on lights so they turn on every night. Turn off the ringer of your phone. Create the illusion that you are home. Put up signs/stickers that state you have a working security system in place. 2) Diversion safers: These are designed to hold valuable things, but look like ordinary households and the burglars never attempt to pick them up. 3) A burglar spends only 10-15 minutes of time in your house. So he will look for easy and well known places like almirahs, suitcases, cupboards etc. Don’t keep valuables in such places! 4) Install automatic outdoor lights, keep the hedges well trimmed. 5) Form a neighborhood watch scheme: Criminals never want to be seen by any one. When a criminal knows there is good chance of being watched , he will not attempt here and he will move on to an easy target. A neighborhood watch scheme is a program in which all the people who live in one area agree to watch out for each other! 6) Crime prevention begins with you: Do something which can prevent the burglar from breaking your home and even if he breaks, he should not get anything valuable. Don’t keep gold/money when you are away. Use safety lockers available in nationalized banks. Use ATMs, draw small amounts. Save money in banks! 7) Watch for strangers. Inform your security or the local police. When you go out for a short duration, keep your Radio/T.V on inside the house. It is a great deterrent to criminals. 9) Reinforce with extra locks/inbuilt door locks/deadbolts on the front and back doors. Use multiple security devices. 10) Utilize an Alarm system: If you want peace of mind, you fix an alarm. If you can’t afford to spend money, even then also just use signs or stickers that announce that you have installed alarm system. 11) Install secret CC TV cameras which can record the movements of the people in and around your house. If your house is burglarized, the burglars can be caught with the help of the recorded video footage. 12) Before going for a walk, lock your house properly. 13) Know the antecedents of your servants. Keep their photo and address readily available. Do not display your wealth before them. Do not tell them about your movements!!! 14) Ask for ID if any repairers, linemen, plumbers, watermen etc come to your house when you are alone! Take the help of your neighbours. 15) Do not accept any eatables or gifts from strangers. 16) Look for those who are hanging out and repeatedly showing up. 17) When you are going away leaving your house locked, inform your security/ police/ neighbours to keep a watch on your house. 18) Get your life, valuables, house insured. 19) Make your home and your neighborhood a safe and secure place to be.
