Sharing the words of Pallavi U Dar, a fellow animal welfare person with Noida SPCA ... CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD... The Endless Wait.... And so Khatroo continues to wait in line. As do Chutki, Chatterbox, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Kali, Nameless, Max, Triple Seven, Caramel, Distemper, Oreo, Amber.....You really want me to continue? Ok i will. Tan, Baadal, German, Black Lab, Snowy male, Snowy female, White Mummy, ABC, Shakey..... Not to forget the countless adorable puppies that come in every other day. Some get named. Many others go before they even have an identity. Other than a tag number. The heartbreaking saga of abandonment continues unabated. With renewed vigor almost. Dogs are found disoriented, frightened, starving and hurt on the streets every other day. They are abandoned far away from home so that they cant find their way back. Left tied to our gates. Left at the shelter under the pretext of leaving them for treatment. Open facebook and one is bombarded with posts from people who are putting up their dogs for adoption. Their reasons are so bizarre, one struggles to be polite. They are moving town, the dog has grown too big and needs space, their new landlord wont allow dogs, their children have moved out of home and the dog is not required any longer, the kids are busy with tuition so its a problem, the dog has a skin infection, the neighbors are scared of him, he barks a lot, an uncle is allergic to dogs, he has brought bad luck to us, we travel a lot and he is holding us back...... These are dogs they once actually wanted, or thought they wanted. They paid good money for these pure breeds. And suddenly its like these poor babies are a liability, a pain, an embarrassment almost. They cant get them out of their homes soon enough. They even set dead lines. Yes dead lines. If you cant find a home for my dog by the end of this week then i will leave him on the street. One lady has taken it to a whole new low. She says- Take him or i will get someone to give him an injection so that he dies. I wonder if they think for even a second what trauma the poor baby will go through? How bewildered he will be? How frightened? He only knows one family. He loves them unconditionally, however badly he is treated. He will be heartbroken, he might even die of heartbreak. But do they care? Care? Whats that? And so as we despair and scramble to find homes for these pedigrees , our beautiful mixed breeds, move further down the line. Their wait gets longer. Truth be told, their turn just never comes. And so Khatroo and gang wait. Patiently. Its as if they know they are children of an even lesser God than the pedigrees.
