Sharing this topic/ question by Rick Senior, Hanshi. I respectfully add my answer and opinion, that Tradition is just a word and that because of Martial Artists overuse and Semantics causes lots of confusion and elaboration equaled to repetition ( Echo) of answers/opinions/ statements made by others In my opinion Tradition means differently to all, but should not mean Strict adherence to the Old way of doing something for the sale of calling it Traditional, for my opinion, and from review of old teachings (in Martial Arts and Life) Traditional means the full range of mastery:Shu-Ha-Ri. Learn and Do things strictly the way you are taught; (with growth and mastery) modify and change things learned to Fit and Improve; with Further and more extensive mastery Make allowances to Create/ Invent and help the original learning Grow and expand reach across systems and people. Isnt it what we so as we learned as children and teach our children? Do as I tell/ teach you, allow to or go do using what I taught you but in a manner that fit you and becomes better suited for you as well as to increase efficiency, Expect children to go and Do better with what we taught and from variation/ improvements via change of what we taught, and come up with New and more improved things on your own? Sorry if I rambled. Lol
