Sharon Schertel told us a story once about how she was walking across a bridge and saw one of her former teachers who happened to be the person who inspired her to be a teacher. I dont remember a lot of the context except for the part where she really wanted her to know that she inspired her to become a teacher so she just yelled Youre the reason I became a teacher! So I guess this is my equivalent to that. I would not be the person I am today had she not been a part of my life. She not only taught me to be a better writer, but a better person. I dont know if suicide prevention is something I ever would have discovered without her, especially at such a young age. And now going into my last year of college I have an internship in literary publishing and a dream of starting a nonprofit for youth with mental health issues. I dont have a way of contacting her other than facebook but if anyone does, please let her know how influential shes been to me and Im sure so many other people as well. Thank you for everything, youre an amazing woman.
