Sharon Update #22 - I apologize for not making these more regular. - TopicsExpress

Sharon Update #22 - I apologize for not making these more regular. The last one was before Thanksgiving. Heres whats happened since then. You recall we had to postpone the Nov 27 visit with Dr. Tarkin because the weather was just not good. The first school closing of the year bore that out. Thanksgiving was quite nice with Kyle and Jonathan and Laura all at home. These holidays are going to be tougher because they will be the first ones without Sharons mom. None the less, we made it through quite well. Therapy in Clarion continued and worked its inexorable progress on Sharons range of motion, strength, and attitude. December was typically busy, but she managed enough mobility to play for the choral Christmas concert. The students and audience alike were thrilled to see her at the piano again. The days following seemed to indicate that she may have overdone it a bit. (Shocker). We traveled to CA with Nancy Davis and Lora OBrien to see Kristan in the Young Americans annual Christmas show, the Magic of Christmas. It was delightful both nights that we saw it. The weather was very good and the trip was full of fun, but a bit of a whirlwind. Kristans California parents, Pat and Gary hosted us all in their lovely Riverside, CA home. While we were there, Sharon took some walks, picked oranges, and actually ran 50 steps three times! I think it was the sunshine. We spent most of the Christmas holiday at Jamison and Meghans. Seeing the grandsons is always therapeutic for her, but being away from the physical therapy did result in some extra soreness. January 8 found us in Dr. Tarkins office and we were delighted to receive another great report on her progress. Physical therapy will continue three days a week until at least the end of March. Well see what is recommended as that time passes. April 9 is our next scheduled visit to the surgeon. Right now, Sharon is teaching classes two mornings a week and a full day on her scheduled tutoring day. I suspect that will increase, but to what level is anyones guess at this point. Depending on who you speak with or what article you read, this surgery can have a 3-10 month recovery spectrum. Were grateful for the care she continues to receive at therapy and especially for the many friends who have provided rides to and from. One decision that has come from this and seems pretty firm is her decision to retire from teaching at the end of this year. She is actually looking forward to being done. The promise of some new experiences and a new grandchild arriving in June really helped make the decision. Thanks to all of you for your patience with not knowing about her progress, your continued prayers, and your interest. Once you get to this stage of the game, the improvements are so much more gradual that daily, or even weekly updates seem too often. However, close to two months is really longer than it should have been. I promise that Update #23 will come sooner, rather than later. Blessings to you all.
