Shaykh Abdul Aziz Al Trefe: The silence of a scholar over an open evil along with his ability in forbidding it is similar to verbal support. Allah dispraised the Jewish scholars over listening while remaining silent: { سَمَّاعُونَ لِلْكَذِبِ أَكَّالُونَ لِلسُّحْتِ } “They are avid listeners to falsehood, devourers of what is unlawful.” [Al-Mā’idah 5:42]
