She got up with a sore throat, blocked nose and watery eyes. - TopicsExpress

She got up with a sore throat, blocked nose and watery eyes. Sniffing badly, she dragged herself from the comfort of her cosy bed. She felt weak and after a lot of effort and great difficulty she finally managed to get the thermometer from the medicine cabinet. With one hand on her pounding head and another on the wall to steady herself, she checked her temperature. 101 degrees. She sighed and looked back at the sleeping father-daughter duo. He had to go to office and the little one had her play-school. She had to pack their lunches and prepare breakfast. She walked slowly towards the kitchen. Mothers do not have the luxury of falling sick, she thought bitterly. As she stood in front of the stove waiting for the milk to boil, she remembered the days before her marriage... the times when she used to fall sick and her mother wouldnt even let her get up from the bed... and her father would insist she had her medicines on time. She sniffed again and massaged her throbbing forehead. Why did I get married? Why did I decide to have a baby? She felt someone tug at her night-shirt. She looked down to see her daughter standing next to her with a sleepy smile on her face. Goo mornin, the daughter whispered and stretched her arms for her usual morning hug. She was too tired to follow the daily morning ritual, good morning, she said and turned back towards the stove. She, again, felt a tug. She looked at her daughter angrily, What?! The daughter asked innocently, ka hua mumma? (What happened mumma?) The worried expression on her two year olds face made her feel a little guilty for yelling at her for no reason. She bent down and said, Mumma sick sweety. Mumma hurt? The worried daughter asked. She nodded, yes baby. The little girl held her mothers hand and dragged her into the bedroom. She got on the bed and motioned for her mother to lie down. The mother did as was told. The bed was so comfortable. Dawai? The daughter asked. (Medicine?) Yes, she replied eager to see what her toddler does next. The little one picked up a bottle of Vicks lying by the bedside which her mother had applied to her a couple of days before. She opened the bottle with a little maneuvering of her short stubby fingers and very delicately started rubbing it on her mothers nose and forehead. After applying the rub generously all over her moms face and neck, she asked, Mumma better? With tears in her eyes, she whispered, yes darling. Mumma all better. She pulled her daughter for a tight hug and kissed the forehead of her smiling child. Suddenly she remembered the milk on the stove. She hurried to the kitchen to see her husband making an omelette. Papaaaa... the girl went and hugged her fathers leg. Good morning betu, he turned to see his wife standing in the doorway, arre what are you doing up? Why are you out of bed? I saw you guys in the bedroom just now. You dont look well. You rest. Aj breakfast papa banayenge! (Today papa will make breakfast!) Yay! The daughter yelled with excitement. He handed her a cup of hot ginger tea with a tablet next to it and took her to the bedroom. As she lay down sipping her tea, she smiled, marriage is not that hard, motherhood is not so difficult. #TheJoysOfMotherhood
