She told me about some free stuff that she got at Target. Face cream, toothpaste, shampoo, eyeliner, lipstick. The person in front of me left it, and it all got mixed in with my stuff. You know, I said, the good folks at Target probably invited the person ahead of you in line to pick up the items missing from her bag free of charge after she discovered that they were missing. Good! They should. But you know, Target is probably going to have to sell up to 100 additional items to make up for the loss they suffered on those five items that you did not return to them. Im not worried about Target. Theyve gotten enough of my money through the years. But, I protested, what about the Target shareholders? I am sure that they did not bargain on having you take so much of their profit without any effort on your part. Who cares about the shareholders? Taken aback, I did not have anything else to say. I forgive you, I whispered to myself. And youre welcome.
