She was a young mother ... had just gotten her children and herself out of an abusive situation ... managed to find work in a diner ... worked all night ... paid a teenager over half her tips every morning to sleep over with the children ... the tires on her car were a hazard ... one morning she came out to find four new tires in her car ... bartered with a local garage to put them on by cleaning the office and doing some filing ... Christmas was coming ... no money for toys ... barely enough to live on ... she began cleaning up the old toys, painting, washing ... came out of work on Christmas morning to find her old car filled with boxes of gifts ... clothes, toys, food ... In Galatians we read And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up. There are a lot of people who need our help ... in a lot of different ways ... maybe you wont be called on to replace tires ... to by clothes, toys, food for another ... maybe all you will be called on to do is to be there for someone ... to listen to them ... maybe take them to an appointment ... but maybe you will be called to move from your comfort zone ... to dare to step out and give of your resources ... we get all antsy when needs arise ... when we see other people in difficulty ... often times we hear the stereotype pronouncements ...just too lazy to work ... think they are too good for the jobs out there ... youve heard them ... and yes, there are those who play the system ... sometimes we do have to step back and let a person hit rock bottom ... but we should be there to help them back up ... In the Sermon on the Mount we are told “You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for. A favorite song at camp this past summer was Lean on Me ... its words ring true ... for we each have that time in our lives when we need someone to be there for us ... Lean on me! when youre not strong and Ill be your friend Ill help you carry on for it wont be long till Im gonna need somebody to lean on. Be Blessed ... be a Blessing.
