She was born with a low birth weight and the darkest skinned of all the girls. We were so happy to welcome another baby into our lives after six years. My mom said her name was Loretta Jean Thornton. She was the biggest and toughest tomboy wed ever seen. She climbed trees, loved to play inside our outside hut that our daddy build for us and the neighborhood kids. Retta, as she is affectionately called, loved to sleep with me. She became my baby. She loved my company and I loved hers. all four of us loved our baby sister and took turns holding her, kissing her and talking gibberish to her. Oh, did I tell you all, that Retta has broken multiple bones in her body, yet shes managed to overcome all that damage. She was diagnosed with a trace of Sickle Cell Anemia. Daddy gathered us around for family prayer. Daddy and Momma rebuked the sickness and sent it back to the sender. On Rettas follow up Doctors appointment momma was told the good news by the Doctor that Retta didnt have the trace of Sickle Cell any longer. I remember my Aunt had a gospel concert in a small town. Retta was sitting on my knees when she jumped from my knees and began to jump and shout as we called it then and now. She was only four or five but she seemed to know what a touch from God could do with her little soul. Today, she is 40 years old, full of life and shes very independent. Our children refer to her as The Auntee. They go to her for that tell it like it is advise which usually means a good cursing out at the beginning or ending of the talk. Nonetheless, they love her and all they hear is the respect and love in her heart for them. Just recently We all received news of a terminal medical condition by her Doctors. You guessed it, We believed God to see the report of The Lord. The results were negative. Aint God good? Well Baby sister, I hope this post feels really good to you as you read it. I pray this day is as sweet and precious as you are My Pookie ! Happy 40th Birthday Ms. Loretta Thornton.
