Sheesh. Sandra Buskirk gave me the number 10. So I have to come - TopicsExpress

Sheesh. Sandra Buskirk gave me the number 10. So I have to come up with 10 whole things you may not know about me. LMK in comments if you would like a number. 1. I had surgery within hours of my birth. I was a month early and my esophagus wasnt connected to my stomach. 2. I was born a Navy brat, and being in the military needed welfare to pay for the special health issues I started life with. (We never have paid our military enough. We can reduce the military spending while paying our service people more by reducing the number of toys the upper brass has and still be a major threat to potential enemies; damnit.) 3. Ive died 3 times that I remember. Mom says I died even more than that, but those were often merely for seconds. 4. I was the 1979 poster child for March of Dimes. 5. I was very underweight my first 10 or so years. Puberty helped me to (really) put on the pounds. Then I weighed only 130lbs in my senior year! I was actually a bit underweight again. 6. In spite of all these health issues, I grew up rough camping with my new dad at age 9 and up; including fishing, swimming in glacial rivers and lakes, and hiking even the rougher areas of the mountains in Washington. In Summers I spent time at one Grands trailer camping all around the 5 NW states and Canada and at the other Grands riding horses, the little farm bike, swimming in the irrigation pond and building forts in the empty crates. I had a pretty damn good childhood. 7. I had a horse from about age 13 to age 16. She was a lovely pure-bred appaloosa named Midnight Blaze. I even trained her myself and was told I did a pretty good job. 8. I saw my grandpa go into the light as I said goodbye to him. An hour later I woke to the call from the nursing home telling us he was gone. 9. I worked on the Lady Washington (a reproduction of an 18th century tall ship sailing vessel) as a Topman. That means I not only worked the sails changing them up and hauling around the yard arms, but I also climbed aloft (often in bare feet to be more authentic) to ease out onto a line beneath the arm to let down or haul up the sails. It was incredible to sway on this line about 70 feet up for a few minutes as we got undersail. Captain wouldnt let us stay up there any longer, due to safety. Also we had more work to do. 10. Ive done alot of volunteer work, including restarting the Books for Kids program at the Everett Boeing plant. It was alot of organization, delegation, coordination, presentation, and even some politics. It was also alot of fun. I not only got to get the efforts at the plant going again, but also to go along with deliveries and the handing out and reading of the books to the kids receiving them. I so enjoyed corrupting kids to the joys of reading.
