Sheffield Shield matches got underway today, as well as the Australia A fixture against the English XI. Batting was dominant today as Australia A didnt find a breakthrough on a very uninspiring track down in Hobart. I was watching the match purely to see how our selected batsmen go as our bowling attack is as good as finalised. However, I am not sure how indicative this track will be. Either way, Alastair Cook and Michael Carberry will be the English openers come the Gabba. Tasmania and Queensland got their battle underway. Jordan Silk, as cautious and steady as he can be in his youth, scored 107 runs, while Ed Cowan is unbeaten on 68*. Ashes potential George Bailey has 34*. Ryan Harris has 1-99 from 25 overs. It is dry in Queensland and the Allan Border Field provided a good batting deck. Victoria were rolled by New South Wales for 236 runs. Chris Rogers, who will most likely open the batting for us in the 1st Test, scored 88 runs but was lacking partners with Cameron White (48) being the only batsman to post something of substance. Nathan Lyon took 2-58, Doug Bollinger 2-31, and Sean Abbott 3-60. Steve OKeefe grabbed 2-29. South Australia find themselves at 7/177 against WA. Michael Klinger and Callum Ferguson are missing from the side as they feature in Australia As match. Travis Head scored 51 as the only decent post of the day, while Michael Hogan took 3-24.
