Sheffield church proposal in line for permission Proposals to turn a former Sheffield church into student flats are in line for approval next week – despite objections and planners casting doubt on the scheme’s viability. The application to convert the empty, Grade II listed St Silas Church, on Hanover Square, Broomhall, into four ‘cluster’ flats with 27 bedrooms will be discussed at a meeting of the city council’s planning committee on Tuesday. The developers have also asked for listed building consent to make the necessary alterations if approval is granted. A report to the committee says: “The viability of the scheme is in some doubt and it is noted that previously approved schemes by different developers, for community use and residential accommodation, have not been implemented and are presumed to have not been economically viable.” Seven residents have objected, as well as city centre councillor Jillian Creasy. A petition with 10 signatures has been handed in. Source: sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/ sheffieldinnews/sheffield-church-proposal-in-line-for-permission/
