Shelley’s Evening Prayers OPENING SENTENCES Our soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. Out of the depths we have cried to You. O Lord, hear our voices. With our whole hearts we want to praise You. O Lord, hear our voices. We will wait for you Holy God. Our soul waits, and in Your word we hope. CANTICLE In the shadow of Your wings We will sing to you, O Lord. The Lord is our light, our salvation; whom shall we fear? The Lord is the refuge of or lives; of whom shall we be afraid? In the shadow of Your wings we will sing Your praises, O Lord. One thing we ask of you, one thing we seek; to dwell in your presence loving God, to gaze always on Your holy place. REFLECTION You have supported us, and brought us - loving Creator – Mother/Father God – into and through this most amazing day. We thank you and give you honor and praise. Now the shadows grow longer and the evening approaches quietly on wings of wind…….our urgent, busy city slows ever so slightly and we breathe deeply knowing our work has finished for this day…….Beloved God, called by so many vibrant, metaphorical names….in your immense wisdom and tender mercy, you have given us safe lodging, and we trust you will bless us with rest and peace throughout the night. CONFESSION Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. CLOSING VERSES Luke 2:29-32 Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised; For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, * whom you have prepared for all the world to see: A Light to enlighten the nations, * and the glory of your people Israel. Glory be to the Mother/Father/God, and to the Christ, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
