Sheriff: Impressive Awards Received by Richland County Sheriff’s Department Members Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is proud to announce that on Saturday, October 25, 2014 the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Pistol Team sent eight members to compete in the 2014 South Carolina Criminal Justice Training Conference Shooting Match, hosted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officer’s Association and held at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. The Sheriff adds the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Team performed very well and won or placed in a variety of the categories in the match. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that almost fifty law enforcement officers representing agencies from across the state of South Carolina participated in this event. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that seven out of the eight Richland County Sheriff’s Department team members won top awards in the competition, which are as follows: · First Place, Service Pistol Match (Classified Division) – Investigator David Collins · Second Place, Service Pistol Match (Classified Division) – Master Deputy Shaun Gause · First Place Overall in Tactical Category (New Shooters) – Major Chris Cowan · Second Place Overall in Tactical Category (Classified Shooters) – Investigator David Collins · Second Place Overall in Patrol Category (Classified Shooters) – Captain Dave McRoberts - Third Place Overall in Patrol Category (Classified Shooters) – Sergeant 1st Class Eric Bright · First Place – Four Man Team (Investigator David Collins, Master Deputy Shaun Gause, K-9 Unit Specialist Josh Newsom, 1st Sergeant Bob Surratt) Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Pistol Team currently has eight members; all of which had to qualify to make the team. The Pistol Team trains in shooting about once a month in different courses with pistols, rifles and shotguns; the team also uses the various matches they participate in as practice. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department Pistol Team tries to compete in as many matches throughout the year as possible because it’s a great opportunity to improve their skills, represent the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and bring knowledge and skills back they learned from competing to share with the rest of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Leon Lott commends each Richland County Sheriff’s Department Pistol Team member for their excellent and professional performance. Sheriff Leon Lott stated that through training and dedication the team members were able to receive such high honors.
