Sheriff’s Office Announces Another “Virtual Ride Along” Follow on Twitter: @STPSO After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response following the New Orleans region’s first ever “virtual ride along,” the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is announcing a second one. This Monday, Labor Day, residents will get to experience what it is like to enforce the laws on St. Tammany’s waterways. A deputy from public affairs will live-tweet the shift of marine division deputies from aboard one of the agency’s watercraft on the Tchefuncte river. The virtual ride along will begin shortly after noon Monday. There is no scheduled end time but it will probably last until early evening. To follow along with the deputies on Monday, residents can follow the Sheriff’s office Twitter account: @STPSO. Last weekend, residents were able to follow along on Twitter with a road deputy as he patrolled the streets of St. Tammany and responded to calls, seeing everything that came up during the course of that deputy’s shift, including traffic stops, arrests and even what they ate for dinner. An estimated 500 registered Twitter users followed along last weekend with countless others viewing the live Tweets anonymously. The virtual ride alongs are part of the Sheriff’s efforts to provide a more direct connection with the residents we serve through various social media channels. “We hope to give those following along some insight into what it is like for our deputies on the water during what is one of the area’s busiest boating weekends,” Sheriff Strain said.
