Sheryl asks: I am doing 5:2 with mixed results. There is no appetite reduction on feast days. Does ones appetite reduce following alternate day dieting? Ive had hundreds of people report no weight loss with 5:2. The reason for this remains unclear, as there is no study to date that examines the effects of 5:2 (i.e. fasting on non-consecutive days) on body weight. Please note that almost all of the human studies reported in Mosleys book relate to EOD, not 5:2. My research on EOD shows that the majority of people dont binge on the feast day (they actually only eat about 110% of their needs). The reason for this is not known, but most likely involves stomach shrinking that occurs with fasting every other day. Since 5:2 only has 2 fast days/week, it is possible that this is not enough to induce stomach shrinking, and thus hunger is not suppressed.
