Shetland Islands Introduction to Coaching Course We are delighted to announce that for the first time ever, a Boxing Scotland Introduction to Coaching (ITC) course will be delivered in Shetland on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th June 2014. The venue for the ITC course in Shetland will be the Clickimin Leisure Complex which is situated in Lerwick, the island’s capital. The facility is owned and managed by the Shetland Recreational Trust and is the biggest of eight facilities situated around the isles. At present we have a very respectable 13 confirmed participants whose backgrounds range from staff of the Shetland Recreational Trust, employees of the local council, through to members of the local police force and members and PE teachers in local schools. The course is generating considerable interest and the Shetland Times will be publishing a feature on the course prior to its delivery and then a subsequent report afterwards. Willie Burns, Boxing Scotland Director of Coach Education added “As the recognised Governing Body of Sport for boxing in Scotland, we have a remit to deliver coach education courses on a national basis. We are, therefore, delighted to be working in partnership with the local council to deliver our first ever training course on the Shetland Islands. Our aim is to promote and develop the sport of Boxing in the Shetlands Isles with a view to at least one new boxing club being established as a result of the staging of our ITC course.”
