Shettima Visits School Children Orphaned By Boko Haram — Nov 5th, 2014 Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima on Wednesday paid an unscheduled empathy visit to a school for children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency. The Future Prowess Islamic School for Orphans, a privately owned educational facility, has over 350 pupils currently attending various classes, while over 1,000 are waiting to be enrolled in the insufficient facility of the school. Shettima who was emotionally moved at the sight of the children singing the National Anthem and fluently reciting verses of the Holy Quran, could not hold back his tears as he hugged the smartly dressed pupils. Head of the School, Suleiman Aliyu, informed Governor Shettima that though the school was originally established to cater for orphans, staff’s children also attended the school. The pupils, who were thrilled by the unscheduled presence of the governor in their school, took turn to show off their acquired talents both in western and Islamic curricular. Governor Shettima gave a cash donation of N100,000 to one of the post-secondary product of the school who got admission to study medicine at the University of Maiduguri. The governor also donated the sum of N5 million as grant to cater for the salaries of the 22 staff of the school, even as he thrilled the innocent children when he personally shared crispy sum N500 notes to the 350 pupils. Founder of the school, Barrister Zannah Mustapha, recalled that the governor had a bold imprint in the history of the school, as he announced that Shettima was the one that footed the first salary bills of the school in his capacity as the branch manager of Zenith bank in 2007.
