Sheyenne River Speedway Lisbon, ND Monday, September 1, 2014 SEASON FINALE LABOR DAY SHOOTOUT AT SHEYENNE RIVER SPEEDWAY By Amber R. Aberle The two day Labor Day Shootout was hosted by Sheyenne River Speedway. Unfortunately Mother Nature was crowed winner on Sunday’s race day schedule, but thankfully weather was beautiful on Labor Day to allow the track to host the final night of racing. The sun was out and a small breeze in the air brought a large 95 car line up and packed fan stands for the final racing event. The night brought in the WISSOTA Modified class in as a special treat for fans to the normal line up of WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifies, WISSOTA Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Mini Stock classes. The Milnor Fabrication Mini Stock feature included a six car line up with plenty of action in the 10 lap feature. Matt Bogart, Brad Sjolin, Zach Muralt, and Cole Bogart provided the top running cars competing for the fast feature. Also in the mix racing for position was Wayne Haug and Jack Gartner. The race finalized with Zach Muralt taking top honors followed closely by Matt Bogart, Cole Bogart, and Brand Sjolin. RDO Equipment Hobby Stock feature was next in the lineup which included 16 cars challenging each other for top honors. Starting pole was the #18 of Austin Wimer with #17 Bill Carow starting alongside with fourteen hungry drivers’ tightly lined up behind when the green flag was given. Drivers were quickly providing action for the fans as the cars went into the corners three wide all over in the lineup. Fans had to be quick on their feet to watch all the passing that was happening in each lap between the drivers. Quickly moving into the pole position and never looking back was that of #22 Cory Rodin whose car was quick, clean, and flawless in the corners allowing him to obtain an almost ½ track advantage over the field as they battled for position. The top five finishers ended with Cory Rodin taking top honors followed by Kelly Jacobson, Daleyn Baasch, Bo Gregor, and Kasey Ussatis. In the WISSOTA Larson Grain Street feature the fans were treated with one of the most cars to start a feature of the year with 12 cars battling it out for top honors. Starting pole was the #79 Billie Christ and next to him was the #46 of Jonny Carter. Providing fans some action packed laps was #21 Duffy Froemke, #54 Jodie Michaelsohn, #5 Ryan Pommerer, #46 Jonny Carter, and #1 of Tim Johnson. Other drivers within the mix included Nic Klein, Tyler Pfaff, Matt Lesmeister, Roger Lukes, Dusty Mund, and Hunter Carter. The night unfortunately ended early for Christ and H. Carter. When the checker flag flew it was Tim Johnson who started in the sixth position that was able to beat out Jonny Carter for top honors followed closely by Froemke and Michaelsohn. The WISSOTA Pizza Ranch Midwest Modified class brought in the most cars of the night with 27 cars fighting to be in the feature race. After the five heat races completed the lineup of fifteen cars that were going to the feature race but that provided two more B-Main races with those drivers battling it out to make the feature race. In the end 21 cars were allowed to start the feature race and on pole was that of #14 Eric Edwards with the #91 of Jarrett Carter start right next to him in the second position with a very competitive lineup. Carter was quick to take the lead while the rest of the field continued to go three-four wide into the corners and quickly changing position all around the field. Fans were treated with a fast action paced race that was sure to bring excitement to the crowd trying to figure out how the top ten would end up. In the end the top five finishers were Jarrett Carter, Randy Klein, Andrew Kapp, Nate Reinke, and Eric Edwards. WISSOTA Accent Plumbing Super Stocks feature was next in line to battle it out in a 20 lap feature that included 11 cars. Starting pole position was the #76 of John Miller and alongside him was that of #15 Dave Jacobson. The action quickly started when the green flag flew with drivers trying to make their way past Miller. In the mix of the cars battling it out was that of Brian Bernotas, Eric Robertson, Dave Shipley, Tim Johnson, and Shane Tendeland. The race ended with #1JR Tim Johnson taking top honors for the second time that night. Tim Johnson captured both the WISSSOTA Street win along with the WISSOTA Super Stock win is a huge honor in the Labor Day Shoot out. Rounding out the top five includes Tim Johnson, Brian Bernotas, Dave Shipley, Shane Tindeland, and Erik Robertson. The night ended with a special showing of the WISSOTA Modified class that included 15 drivers ready to compete for top honors. Starting pole was that of Cody Erickson and next to him was that of Billy Vogel. Unfortunately Vogel would not be able to continue the race after a little mishap. After a few minor yellow flags and eliminating three other cars besides Erickson, the race was able to continue to prove exciting as drivers fought in the lineup going three to four wide until the field started to stretch out and allow more one on one battles for fans to watch. In the end it was Cody Erickson that was able to claim victory with Randy Klein, Mike Greseth, Mike Stearns, and John Nord rounding out the top five. The Sheyenne River Speedway would like to thank all the drivers, fans, sponsors, and volunteers who allowed to not only make the Labor Day Shootout a great event but to have a wonderful season. Even though the season is over the race board hope that fans are able to join in some specials at area tracks. The race board also wants to wish good luck to all the drivers who are attending these special events and hope to see you next season.
