Shields, Royals take Sunday rubber game at Oakland James Shields threw five perfect innings and the Royals scored all their runs in the third as they beat Oakland 4-2 Sunday at the Coliseum, taking two of three from the team with the best record in baseball. The Royals first run came when Nori Aoki singled in Christian Colon, then Omar Infante followed with a two run double and Salvador Perez singled in Infante for the 4-0 lead. Shields retired the first 15 Oakland hitters before Josh Reddick homered to lead off the sixth. Reddick homered again off Shields in the eighth for the other Oakland run. The A’s had just two other hits with former Royal Alberto Callaspo singling one out after Reddick’s first homer but he was doubled off first by a Sam Fuld liner to second. Jed Lawrie singled in the eighth right after Reddick’s second homer but was stranded at first. Greg Holland pitched a perfect ninth for his American League leading 31st save. Scott Kazmir took the loss for Oakland. The Royals have Monday off before starting an interleague series Tuesday in Arizona.
