Shillong: Sikkim to host 4th International Tourism Mart, 2015 Press Release TAAS The 3rd International Tourism Mart 2014, organised by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India concluded on 15th October after a action packed function & activities at Shillong, Meghalaya. The International Tourism Mart 2014 is organised since the year 2012 every year by Ministry of Tourism (MoT) in order to boost & promote the tourism Industry in North East States. A delegation of Sikkim was led by Hon’ble Shri. D.N Sherpa- Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism & Civil Aviation. The Sikkim delegation comprising of Additional Secretary of Sikkim Tourism- Mr. J. D. Bhutia, Mr. Madan Pradhan-Joint Director ( I&P), Mr. Tashi Geley- Deputy Director ( I&P), Miss. Shova Lama-Deputy Director ( Sikkim Tourism , New Delhi), President TAAS- Satish Bardewa & members , President SAATO, Mr. Y. Dorjee and members of Sikkim Hotel & Restaurant Association. Tourism Officials from all the States from North East along with respective Tourism Stake Holders participated in the event to showcase their tourism potential and presented rich Cultural programmes to the visiting delegates. The three days long event witnessed various activities and business interaction between the buyers & sellers. There were seminars and presentation on Tourism destination by all the States of North east. The presentation of Home Stays of Sikkim and Sikkim as a destination was made by the Addl. Secy, Sikkim Tourism. During the 3rd International Tourism Mart, a cultural programme and dance was presented by the Culture Deptt, Sikkim including that of unique Snow Lion dance which received a large applause. Sikkim Tourism also hosted lunch on 2nd day to all the delegates attending the Tourism Mart and distributed promotional materials on various destinations of Sikkim including that of Home stays. TAAS President Satish Bardewa and SAATO President also attended the 1st Press Conference organised by North East India Tourism Confederation-NEITC. It may be mentioned that NEITC is an organisation with an participation from all the eight North east States represented by the President of major Tourism take holders of each States from North east. NEITC was formed this year in June with an aim to promote Tourism in North East and to address common issue pertaining to tourism Industries for the Entire North east tourism industry at large. TAAS President, Satish Bardewa during the press conference requested the Govt. of India to extend the NEIPP ( North east Industrial promotion policy) further ahead from 2017, As tourism is still at infancy stage in North East and in order to boost the tourism Industry it was requested that the NEIPP should be extended beyond 2017. (As per the present notification NEIPP is up to the year 2017). TAAS President also requested the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India for more prominent promotion and more focus on Publicity of North east in the Incredible India campaign of Ministry of Tourism. While speaking to the members of Media, TAAS President requested them to highlight the tourism potential and destination of North East States as Media has a major role and wider reach to help NEITC to promote all States of North east together. TAAS President also suggested NEITC about organising a yearly FAM trip for the tour operators of the North East to visit each other States as to share ideas on intra State tourist circuit and also to get first hand information and destination experience. There were also Foreign delegates (tour operators) and travel writers who had come to witness this grand Event and also to explore more about the different States of North East. On behalf of Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, TAAS President invited the Foreign delegates and Tourism Stake holders of North East States to the Sikkim Winter Carnival at Gangtok which is schedule to be organised during the mid week of December this year at Gangtok. The function was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma. The tour operators from all the North East States and foreign delegates climbed on the Stage and rejoiced when the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma announced in presence of Hon’ble Shri. D.N Sherpa- Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism & Civil Aviation and amongst hundreds of spectators and participants that Sikkim will be the host for the 4th International Tourism Mart, 2015. Satish Bardewa, President-TAAS expressed sincere thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for awarding this responsibility to the State of Sikkim. The 3th International Tourism Mart, 2014 at Shillong was organised by Meghalaya Tourism and support by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India which was a grand event with a rich and diverse Cultural extravaganza from eight states of North East.
