Shipping, air, power services restored : Admn. & ANC Port Blair, Nov 28 : More update about the relief and rescue efforts undertaken by the A & N Administration in collaboration with Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) has been received. According to official sources, shipping and air services in the islands have been restored. In coordination with airline operators such as Air India, Spice Jet, Jet Air and GoAir, extra flights were arranged and other rescheduling of tickets was done to cater to the requirements of tourists whose schedule had got disrupted due to the cyclone. Due to the coordinated efforts of Coast Guard and Police, search & rescue operations for 73 fishing boats have been fairly successful. As per report till 7 pm, all fishermen have been contacted and are reported safe except for one fisherman who is still missing. However, the Administration is making best efforts to trace and establish contact with the missing fisherman. Further, the traffic on the Andaman Trunk Road (National Highway 4) has been restored. Important public buildings have been repaired and the repair to the school buildings has been taken up on priority and is likely to be completed soon. Repair of damaged water supply line has been done in some places and will be completed in other places by 28th November, 2013. Power has been restored in Port Blair Municipal area, major parts of South Andaman, Havelock, Neil Island and North & Middle Andaman. However, restoration work is in progress in remaining parts of South Andaman, Havelock and Middle Andaman and power is likely to be restored by Nov. 28, 2013. Out of 51 Relief Shelters that had been made operational, 26 shelters are still operational and food and relief material is being provided to around 2000 persons. Damage Assessment Teams constituted by the Administration are conducting the survey for providing relief as per State Disaster Response Fund norms. The Administration is trying to complete the process at the earliest so that timely relief is provided to the affected people, a communication from the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Disaster Management) said here today.
