Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash has expressed her disgust after the vandalism of signs at the Shoalhaven Heads Learn to Ride Bike Track less than 12 hours after they were erected. Nine signs were destroyed and damaged Wednesday evening along the bike track located at Jerry Bailey Oval after being erected by Council staff earlier that day. Council has worked closely with the Shoalhaven Heads community in providing the Shoalhaven Heads Learn to Ride Bike Track as a fun and safe location for the area’s children to practice riding their bicycles. Mayor, Gash said the vandals had caused over $600 in damage after damaging a number of ‘street signs’ located along the track. “The Shoalhaven Heads Learn to Ride Bike Track is a fantastic initiative designed to provide the local community with a safe and exciting recreational meeting hub,” said Clr Gash. “To see the amount of hard work put in both by Council staff and the community to turn this project into a reality and then to have the track vandalised so soon after commencement is disappointing to say the least. “It beggars belief that anyone would want to wilfully damage this community asset especially within hours of the signage being erected.” “I would certainly encourage anyone with any information on this vandalism to contact Shoalhaven Police on 02 4421 9699.” Shoalhaven Heads Community Forum President, Laurie Talbot said he had been left very disappointed by the vandalism. “This type of vandalism of community property is simply disgusting,” said Mr Talbot. “The Shoalhaven Heads Community Forum is extremely disappointed that this vandalism has taken place to a much loved community facility.”
