Shobha an elegant actress from south india. She born to malayalam actress Prema menon in the year 1962. Her real name was Mahalakshmi. In the year 1966 shobha started her career as a child actress under the name baby mahalakshmi. Thattunkal thirakkapedum was that movie and she acted along with legends like J. P. Chandrababu , Savithri and K. R. Vijaya. That film not fared well but little shoba was noticed. . Later she acted in one of the first multistar movie Udyogastha (1967) along with Sathyan , Premnasir , Madhu and Sarada. That film was a boxoffice hit. That renamed mahalakshmi as Shobha. Like her name she enlighten the cinema world. She appeared somemore movies as child actress.in 1971 she got kerala state best child artist award for the movie Aval alpam vaiki poyi. . In her teenage she mostly appeared in supporting roles. Through the movie Ormakal Marikkumo (1977) she received kerala state best supporting actress. . 1978 she upgraded as a heroine through the movie Uthrada Rathri directed by balachandramenon. That was a luck for her and she became a popular actress. Not only in malayalam but also in tamil , telugu and kannada she gained lot of popularity. Through the movie Bandhanam and Ente neelakasam she achieved kerala state best actress award in the year (1978). Vayanadan thamban , Ulkadal , Shalini ente koottukari etc are her most popular malayalam movies. In 1978 she appeared the controversial movie Randu penkuttikal which deals with lesbianism. . In kannada she acted in kokila and aparajitha (which got filmfare award 1978). In tamil Agal vilakku, Nizhal nijamakirath, Enipadikal, Moodupani , Mullum malarum etc are both critically aclaimed and good movies of her. . 1979 tamil movi Pasi awarded her the national award for best actress(1980) and film fare award for best actress (1979). . Her relation with director Balumahendra finally lead her to death at her tender age 17 (1980). . She was beautiful, talented , and known for her fine acting.
