Shock coming next election: The People’s Partnership Government has a major shock coming in the 2015 general election where the people of this country will punish them for their actions, says Opposition MP Colm Imbert. Speaking during the marathon debate on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2014 at the Parliament sitting yesterday morning, Imbert expressed his disgust and anger on what he said was Government’s railroading of legislation through the House, without proper consultation with the people. “Mr Speaker, I can’t wait for the next general election; they have a shock coming,” said Imbert as he slammed the “fascist” Government. Imbert returned from Frankfurt, Germany, where he was on vacation to join the debate. He said the people of this country, from their postings online, etc, are angry. “I’ve detected an anger, an outrage, and you know what is going to happen to them? The population is going to punish them, Mr Speaker, so they can pass whatever bill they want to pass,” he said. Imbert said the Government does not want to contest the general election fair and square and was attempting, through the bill, to change the voting patterns as they believe votes for smaller parties like the Congress of the People (COP) and Independent Liberal Party (ILP) would hamper their chances. Imbert dismissed all parties opposed to the PNM, pointing out if one were to combine the results of the 2013 local government election, the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election and the by-elections in St Joseph and Chaguanas West, the PNM would have been ahead in 20 seats and leading in another four under the run-off system.
