Shocked by the response that I got from this group here is the message that I sent verbatim: I fully support, supporting our veterans, true heroes. I applaud you for doing so. I happen to be a veteran, I served in Operations Desert Shield & Storm. What I cannot support is mass littering that will maim and kill wildlife. Balloon releases are exactly that. Please, I beg you to consider an alternative. Please, please check out balloonsblow.org for invaluable information on alternatives. Thank you. Was I opposed to honoring, or memorializing fallen veterans, many of which were my friends and brothers in arms? I dont think so but I certainly have been mistaken before.... Since your hatred of balloons obviously outweighs your support for our fallen Veterans, you may just want to stay home. That actually hurt me and to say that I am offended is an understatement. Obviously I will not be in attendance (since the event is in Indiana & I am 1. Recuperating and 2. Live in Seattle) but I a sharing here in case anyone feels the urge to contact them in defense of wildlife and the environment? There are many other alternatives to balloon releases and better ways to honor the fallen. ..plant a tree for crying out loud.... Im in too much shock, insult, and sadness at the response & the complete disregard for the environment & Wildlife while he is obviously more concerned about insulting my support for veterans.
