Shocked local residents watched on as a tornado whipped through Bombala on Saturday afternoon, sucking debris high into the air and leaving considerable damage in its wake. Witnesses say that the storm formed in the direction of the Bombala Golf Club, and put down an actual funnel several times as it swept through town late in the afternoon. The high winds were accompanied by very heavy rain and impressive thunder and lightning, with power being lost for a short period due to a strike near Village Ford. A small crowd was still gathered at the Bombala Showground for the Australia Day celebrations at the time of the tornado, and was quickly forced from the main shearing tent to the nearby hall in the severe weather. Although many spotted debris high in the air some distance away, however, few at the showground realised an actual tornado was taking place. It was different for those with a better view throughout the town, with many hurriedly taking videos and capturing images on their phones. One local resident even ran straight into the tornado to try and get a superior shot! The destruction left in the wake of the tornado chiefly consists of damage to roofs and sheds, while everything from trampolines to clotheslines were destroyed, and debris spread across the town. hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/site/?pageid=event_desc&edis_id=TO-20150125-46780-AUS
