Shocking news! The Barna Research Group reports Christians are now more likely to divorce than non-Christians. This is a sobering story. Nearly 30% of we born again people are or have have previously been divorced-compared to 24% of other married couples. I read that George Barna himself called into question regarding the effectiveness of how churches minster to families. This high incidence of divorce within the Christian community challenges the idea that churches provide truly life-changing support for marriages and family. The Baptist church is at 29%, which is high. The Catholic church is the lowest at 21%, but the Independent churches are at 34%. Please note: The unbelieving atheists and agnostics are better than believers at 21%. My dear brothers and sisters this breaks my heart. The Asians are at 8 % and far less of them are just living together. Does this register with anybody? I believe I need to start teaching on the subject once again. Maybe not! In teaching about the Love walk for so many years I am embarrassed bout the results. Apparently missed the Lord on the issue. Beloved, Im not sure what we can do to turn this around but I am sure we must. A society that thinks this way produces very little lasting fruit. The most incredible statistic I have ever heard is this; If couples are truly born-again and pray together every day, the divorce rate falls to the bottom. From over 50 %, or 1 out of 2 people getting divorced, the statistics change to 1 out of 1100. Did you hear that ? Praying together everyday is the answer. The war against the family and marriage is taking millions of casualties. Its not only husband and wife relationships, but children are left to make so many adjustments in life. They lose so much. Other close relatives and friends are sorely strained. Not to mention the financial difficulties. Possible emotional scars for life. Is there any wonder that God hates divorce? (Malachi :2:16) Disclaimer: If you have been divorced do not be condemned. We understand that few realize what many have gone through. I personally remember my mothers life being threatened by a step-father. I have so much more to teach on this subject. God is well able if we will listen. Dr. Mike
