Shooting game on a roadway is illegal in Montana, but last year, a man shot a pet malamute to death that was walking with his owner on a roadway. The hunter killed the dog with an assault rifle, thinking the dog was a wolf. The hunter never was charged, because the animal he thought was a wolf turned out to be a dog, so since it wasnt a game animal on the road, they decided it wasnt worth punishing.
