Shop class today (saturday afternoon),,This is the RH front fender for Jonathans 72 Mustang. In this picture,,,the fender is upside down on the floor. Where my finger is pointing to is near the front of the fender,,,right behind where the Headlight assembly would be. The spot I am point to is where 99 Percent of these fenders rusted out within 3 years after new on the road. This is the result of the factory putting these cars together so fast on the line,,,they didnt even let the primer (what little they gave them) dry before slamming the dust shields on there and shooting the screws to it. Look to the Right in the picture,,you will see further up in the fender towards the front,,above the Headlight area,,,,that there is virtually Zero primer in there,,,just bare steel. This is the reason there were huge holes in the tops of the fenders on the 71 to 73 body styles. Ill sure take care of all of this mess very soon. I spent 2.5 hours with thinner and a Greenie pad and spray gun cleaning the inside of these fenders down to accept new epoxy primer and color coat and clearcoat. These fenders are still very lucky to be this nice after nearly 40 years on the roads of Louisville.
