Shopian shuts against arrests The south town of Shopian is observing complete shutdown on Saturday against the arrests made by police during and after the long agitation in the town against the killing of five people in two firing incidents by CRPF in September. The shutdown call was announced by the local Imams of different mosques yesterday during Friday congregations. The locals allege that police has registered cases against many local youth and few among them have already been arrested. The arrested include Mohammad Yousuf Fallahi, the local leader of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, led by octogenarian separatist leader, Syed Ali Geelani. Fallahi has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). The locals demand immediate release of the arrested and cancellation of the cases against the youth. The apple town of south Kashmir, Shopian, is known for long shutdown agitations. Five persons were killed in two different firing incidents by CRPF personnel in the Gagren area of the town on September 7 and 11.
