Short film from back home in the Solomon Islands about cultural identity. Its got English subtitles so you can follow along. When he wakes up in town, he is speaking Solomon Island Pidgin which is a form of Melanesian Pidgin spoken throughout Melanesia (from Fiji and Vanuatu to Solomon and Papua New Guinea and other such islands) as a connecting language that was developed to help travelers, traders and missionaries to communicate with local islanders. Also for the local islanders who all spoke various languages and dialects to have a standard language between themselves. You can see how it comes from English hearing the actual Pidgin and reading the English subtitles as well as notice how it differs since it is mixed with island languages and even African languages. (An example being pikinini which means children, which is African. Also, words like lewa, which means woman or closer to beautiful woman and comes from the African lewa which means beauty.)
