Short post (Forgot to add a #4 at the bottom, so this is my second post of this): I know I said yesterday that I wouldnt post for a few days, but just wanted to get this out. Hows my Winter precip forecast for the far northern SP this week holding out? -Early Monday morning an area of snow developed in the far west/central part of the panhandle. Didnt last long and never accumulated since the temps were in the mid-upper 30s, but it snowed nevertheless. Last week I thought some snow could develop there Sunday night into Monday morning, so that verified. I never called for anything big. -Today there has been light freezing rain, some sleet, and patchy light snow in far northern Oklahoma. Never thought this would be a big deal either, but I did think Winter precip would fall over that area this week. More will probably fall over the next couple of days. The bigger snows will be in Kansas. 1. Arctic front still on schedule from sometime Christmas Eve on. Ill have a better idea over the next couple of days, but I believe sooner than later. 2. Look for temps to be at or below freezing for highs over a large area of the SP, including parts of central and north TX, at the end of next week going into the post Christmas weekend, give or take a day or two. A large area will not get out of the 20s, and the panhandles and western OK will probably not get out of the teens. If the cold air pushes a little further east than I anticipate, the panhandles will be a little warmer. 3. VERY up in the air about a Winter storm next week into New Years. The parameters will be ripe for it, but the models are putting lots of snow west/northwest of the SP, and east/northeast of the SP, with very little here. Does NOT make sense. Something has to give, so I still believe the pattern is just too good for a good storm not to happen. January, and especially February the pattern becomes the most favorable for large Winter storms over the SP. 4. ***I believe even colder air could be on tap for sometime New Years week. That air could be true Siberian air in nature, which would get the New Years off to a very brutal start! Its not like I havent warned you about January for months now. ******Keep in mind the front we have coming next week will be colder than what we had in November, and the potential New Years week front will be much colder still! Soak up this 40-60 degree warmth while you can..........its going away for awhile!
