Short-sighted budget cuts! My mum (at the age of 77) is a carer for people in their own homes. Sometimes the calls are only 15 minutes long. Elderly and infirm people rely on these social services not only for practical help but for social contact. The problem with making cut the deficit the number one priority is that services like these are the ones that get squeezed. In the long run its a false economy, as well as being morally misplaced (imho).
