Short-takes on Sanford doins: Theres a poster at the Snafu Herald promoting an Elks Club (East 2nd Street near the back end of the National Guard Armory) barbecue to benefit former editor and Around The Clock columnist Dan Ping, who is undergoing torture - oops, rehabilitation - from a pretty nasty Stroke. I believe the $10-a-plate barbecue luncheon is Saturday. Call the Herald for more info. Dan is well known - and apparently only I argue some of his facts (and, yes, there were two separate Armed Forces services represented at the Iwo Jima Mt. Suribachi flag raising) - Trivia Night contests held throughout our fair burg. If you can check out the cue and send some shekels his way. A yet-to-be-remembered source says the clear-out of the former Park Avenue Pub - known in better days as Heather Moores Emerald Hen Irish Pub - and later the Black Swan - on Park Avenue in the 100 South Block - will be added to the space occupied by The Alley, formerly home of the institutional Harrys Bar and for a brief time The Red Room of no small note itself. Theres a kitchen in the old Pub and one wonders if this augurs for eats with The Blues?
