Studio 7 Headlines January 12, 2015 A Harare High Court judge today ordered the state to stop evicting Mazowe villagers being removed from their homes by police at the alleged instigation of First Lady Grace Mugabe. High Court judge Erica Ndewere ordered the halting of evictions of villagers, who were resettled at Arnold Farm Number 10, also known as Manzou Farm. Judge Ndewere ruled that the affected villagers should not be removed from their properties if no alternative places of residence have been availed by the state. Although state attorney Tymon Tabana argued that the state had offered alternative pieces of land, the court was not satisfied with that court submission, according to lawyers representing the villagers. The MDC formation led by Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC Renewal team have announced that they will boycott by-elections in two constituencies left vacant by former vice president Joice Mujuru and current vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa. President Robert Mugabe proclaimed in a notice published in an extraordinary government gazette that eligible voters in Mount Darwin West and Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituencies would go to the polls to elect new national assembly representatives on march 27th. The by-election for the Mount Darwin West constituency was long overdue and comes in the wake of allegations by legal experts that Mr. Mugabe had violated the Zimbabwean constitution by failing to order a by-election within 90 days of Mujuru’s appointment more than 18 months ago. The Judiciary Service Commission today officially opened the 2015 Legal year, where those in the sector were urged to desist from corrupt activities but compelled to carry their duties diligently .In his remarks in Harare today, at the official opening of the legal year, Chief Justice Chidyausiku commended the good work done by all the courts in the country. He applauded Bulawayo High Court team for a good performance in 2014, at the leadership of Justice Matema. Chidyausiku lamented the situation in Gweru adding it had deteriorated after the departure of Justice Takuva, whose performance had seen the clearing of the backlog then which has since resurfaced. He promised to address the poor working conditions in the sector as head of judiciary in the country and chairperson of the Judiciary Services Commission adding this will help eliminate the rampart corruption After realising the plight of past political violence victims Zimbabweans in the diaspora have come up with a fund that will help these victims. Chairman of the newly-found Global Victims of Violence Fund and MDC-T losing candidate for Buhera West Jaison Matewu says their fund will not discriminate on political affiliation even though it is known that most of the violence that has rocked the country was being perpetrated by the ruling Zanu PF party. Matewu, who is based in England, says the fund will also benefit the 2008 election victims. Two explosions ripped through a market in the northeastern Nigeria Sunday, the second attack is as many days using young girls strapped with explosives. The blasts struck within minutes of each other at a crowded mobile phone market in the town of Potiskum in Yobe state. Estimates of the number of civilians killed in the past week range from several hundred up to 2,000. Boko Haram has been blamed for violence that killed thousands of people during the past five years.
