Short update folks. Good news is that Eddies fever broke a few days ago. Fever is the result of a bacterial infection, identified after a culture was taken of his secretions. As such, as of this past Monday, Eddie was put on a 10-day regimen of Cipro (anti-biotics). Eddie is also teething, and this may have partially contributed to his bacteria-induced fever. Light was shed on the charge nurses poor handling of my sons fever (discussed in last Sundays post). Bottom line is that for whatever reason, the day charge nurse wrongly lifted the 48-hour observation hold, lied to me as to who authorized it and cited an invalid reason as to why. It was introduced to the charge nurse, by who we dont know yet, that teething was the cause, not less than 18 hours after the first determination of a fever. She then lifted the hold. By doing this, she exposed my son unnecessarily when he was moved to the activity room for a party held by his maternal family and it resulted in his temperature spiking to 102.9 F, an increase in secretions and increased flushing. A huge jump from the low 100s F he had the night before that triggered the hold. On top of that, she lied to me saying Disease Control lifted the hold. Speaking with Admin, head of nursing, disease control person and other staff on Tuesday, common sense was confirmed to me that the reason for the 48-hour observation hold was to observe for other non-immediate symptoms, allow for a culture, etc.. to best determine what was affecting Eddie. And that there is no reason for it to ever be lifted. Brenda, the disease control person, was not happy to hear the decision to lift the hold was falsely attributed to her. Thankfully, Administration is taking this whole incident with the seriousness it deserves and is investigating the charge nurses actions. This charge nurse has some answering to do for putting Eddie in jeopardy and there will be repercussions. Ive added a video from yesterday afternoon. Eddie and I watched Cars 2 on my laptop. For the most part, he seemed tired and lethargic. Just one of those days. But there was a period before his bath that he perked up a bit, with his eyes did widening and focusing with some tracking of my voice. May not seem as much, but it is for Eddie. I tried to capture some of it in this video. Thank you all for reading this update and for your continued support of my Eddie. God Bless.
