Should I Stretch Before or after My workout? Although stretching exercises can be included in the pre-workout routine, the most important goal when preparing to exercise should be to increase the body temperature and to prepare the muscles, connective tissue and circulatory system to safely accommodate more intense exercise. Stretching cold can be more harmful than not stretching at all. The best time to stretch is after cardiovascular exercise or a muscular workout, when the body temperature is elevated. I personally prefer to stretch between sets, when I’m resting; by stretching the body part I am exercising, I’m able to keep my focus and rest at the same time. The goal of stretching is to optimize joint range of motion but maintain stability in the joint. It is crucial to do the stretches correctly and to avoid unsafe positions. Benefits of proper stretching: • Increases range of motion for each joint • Minimizes low back pain and problems • Delays onset of muscle fatigue • Minimizes soreness avtarwellness/stretch-workout
