Should the teachers performance be measured based on Teaching or Research? ---by Dr. Justin Paul 10 June 2011 at 11:23 Al business school teachers 2 or 3 days Executive training courses (Management Development programs) in India every month which means faculty members are full engaged in teaching and performance is being measured based on the feedback by managers. Faculty members (Even I did not understand how business schools measure performance of teachers in many other countries when I was in India) in developed countries don`t offer training programs. They spend their time only for publishing in Journals, which is the sole criteria for promotion etc .What a strange world!! Research helps to teach better. 10 June 2011 at 11:57 · Like Joshy Jose A research fellow may not be a good teacher. Teachers performance should be measured based on his/her teaching ability. But research will be an added advantage to a teacher for his/her teaching. 10 June 2011 at 14:35 · Like Marc Chaix What do you think Justin? 11 June 2011 at 12:04 · Like Dr-Justin Paul In top bus schools, professors teach only 90 or 60 hours in an year. They do publish research papers. In 2nd category schools, teaching work load is 120 to 200 hours. In 3rd category bus schools , work load is between 200 to 300 plus teaching hours. So, which one is better? 12 June 2011 at 08:17 · Like Marc Chaix In top bus schools they can afford to have teachers teaching only 90/60 hours in an year! Teaching and researching are two way different activities. You can be an researcher with dozens of publications and so on and such at teaching (and vice versa). 13 June 2011 at 16:04 · Like Joshy Jose From a teacher, a limited number of students can gain something. But from researcher, their research papers will help n number of students & teachers. Also that may be an eye-opener to the world. 15 June 2011 at 00:19 · Like · 1
