Should we Depopulate the planet in order to save it?? I keep running into people who are part of the enviro or green movement who say that there are too many people on this planet, 7 or 8 billion, this level of population is not sustainable, so lots gotta go. At least 50%, some believe 90%! For me, this is a great lie, now, it could happen, but I do not think it would make a bit of difference if we continued to use live here with such disrespect and disdain for this most beautiful place! The truth is, we can all live here, meet all of our basic needs and contribute greatly to the revival of this place, simply by growing our own food locally, year round, in greenhouses. I have done the math folks, I posted this a while ago, but I need to repost cause Im tired of reading posts from people who are lost leaders of the green movement! My view on the issue of OVER POPULATION, u are asking the Wrong Question, the real question is, why are so many people starving and why is the planet dying right in front of us! You cant see this issue outside of the political/economic reality we live in. With our present completely messed up systems, weve already exceeded our population limits, there are definitely too many people on a planet run by an elite class that has most of the economic power and huge amounts of land. The Queen of England alone still owns most of the land in the commonwealth! With our western military might, we go into 3rd world nations and completely change the natural landscape to suit our own corporate agribusiness needs and then ship the food back to the other side of the world. All countries of the world have enough land to feed their people, our agribusinesses steal their food and land, ruin their land with GMO, industrial farming techniques, ruin large tracts of forest to raise animals and treat harvest them as if they were grass, and let the locals starve. Not to mention the effects of mining, dams and other large scale projects. This film completely misses this most important fact, its our greedy and manipulative political/economic/military ways in the west that are creating all these food shortages and leading to terrible water and land use practices. Consider the damages from fracking alone! Look at what Shell did to the Gulf of Mexico. Look at what Fuku is going the Pacific ocean and the whole northern hemisphere. We have cleaner energy options, whats in the way??? The same damn people who created the problems in the first place, they love systems that create dependencies that they can take advantage of and thus maintain their wealth and power! Look at our banking systems and how much we let powerful banking interests determine govt policies that hurt the planet. Weve known about Solar, wind, hydro and geo thermal power for a long, long time. The only reason we didnt deploy them sooner, is because our elite wanted to keep us hooked on oil, gas, coal and nuclear. Over population is another story created by our elite, who by the way, also control research funding and the mass media that promotes such destructive ideas and is paving the way for mass genocide as a solution to problems that they alone have created!!!! Please wake up my fellow enviro friends, you dont want to be someone who supports this ludicrous notion that there are too many people, when the real problem is, there are too many greedy bastards in control, and day by day, they tighten their grip over us. Drones, worldwide spy networks and privatized and govt sponsored armies are everywhere! Wake up people, we are running out of time! Agape and Namaste I also wrote a piece, showing how easy it would be to create abundance again using greenhouses everywhere to grow our food, Growing food indoors with hydroponics, 24/7/365 would mean that we would only need to use 1% of the farmland being cultivated right now on the planet to feed 7.3 billion people! Lets do the Math: 6,200,000 square miles of land is used for growing crops on the planet, thats about 4,000,000,000 acres (does not include land used for pastures, its 11.6 million square miles). Thats 4 billion acres of land, cause one square mile equals 640 acres. Will Allen, well known urban farmer, growing food on 3 acres of land in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, claims he is able to feed 10,000 people. Lets assume hes boasting a bit, lets cut that number down 50% to 5,000 people on 3 acres of greenhouse space. In order to feed the present population using Wills methods, we divide 7.3 billion people by (5000/3) 1666 people per acre. 7,300,000,000/1666 equals 4,400,000 acres of land would be needed to feed the present population of the world if we use greenhouse hydroponic methods. At present, there are 4 billion acres being used! That means that only 1% of present land used for crops would be needed to feed the present world population if we used urban agricultural methods!!! Urban means local, no transportation costs - shipping by boat, truck, plane and train, all those wasted dollars from fuel saved, food spoilage from transportation would be saved, the need for packaging would be eliminated, chemicals in food from fertilizer and herbicides like roundup would be eliminated, GMO, health care costs would decline dramatically from eating fresh, local food. The benefits from growing food indoors, locally are just unbelievable! To those folk who say that the world is over-populated, this is completely false. The real issue is that we dont grow food efficiently and if we drop the need for dairy and meat production, that also greatly lessens the need for food production acreage. Land use for grazing is close to double the land presently used for other types of agriculture. We need to decentralize the world folks, grow food locally and eat a vegan diet to minimize our footprint on the Biosphere. This is the solution to all of our enviro, social, economic and political problems!! Small is beautiful and Vegan is the most enviro friendly eating protocol on the planet!
