Shout out for sharing...Points of Interest Points of interest concerning the ratification of the Babler Agreement, negotiating the end of the Conductors’ craft, are found below, with more detailed information contained in the attached document. 1) If you fail to vote your ballot on this issue it will be counted as a “Yes” vote for ratification. Remember how well that worked in the SMWIA ‘merger’? 2) Despite what you are being led to believe, very few trainmen will benefit from this agreement, and those that do, won’t be paid for being unproductive for long. 3) BNSF is afraid of the legislative solution to the crew consist issue, H.R. 3040 requiring two crew members on every train. This tentative agreement is a preemptive effort by BNSF to abort the baby before it is born. 4) Even those who do receive short-term financial benefit by passage of this tentative agreement may suffer reduced benefits and endanger the solvency of the Railroad Retirement System in the long-term. 5) There is a minimum basic cost for doing business. Safety is Non-Negotiable….Period. 6) Despite an uncertain national economy, railroads are raking in record profits. There is no credible threat to their monopolies….unless we create one by giving one carrier a competitive advantage over the others. Then begins the “Race to the Bottom” and Congressional excuse for intervention. 7) It is premature to negotiate an issue that is 8 years before the moratorium expires, long before PTC has been installed, let alone demonstrated that it works without dangerous, malfunctions. Crew consist is negotiated locally, but nothing prevents General Committees from voluntarily meeting for strategy sessions to agree and coordinate what and how such negotiations should be conducted, should the time come when we must. 8) If you remain on the property, you retain control of your trains’ operations, application of work rules and federal laws. You retain control of your own futures. If the agreement is ratified and you are effectively locked off the property, you are surrendering all of the tools you have to leverage your combined resolve. Use your heads….”They Run the Railroads, We Run the Trains.” 9) If we’ve learned anything from the imprisonment of Brothers Little and Boyd, it is that those accused of embezzlement and fraud should not be representing our Brotherhood in any capacity, especially if they are unelected, appointed ‘representatives’. Are such peoples’ motives really trustworthy? The delegates to the Convention think not. Knowing exactly how this proposal would utterly destroy our organization, what possible, honorable motivation can you think of for ‘negotiating’ it in the first place? 10) Merely circulating this proposal has caused enormous damage to our legislative efforts and to our Organization. The only possible way to repair the damage done is to overwhelmingly reject the proposal. Retain control of your future by remaining on the property and doing what you do each day…..Protecting America!
