Show Review: Evita at The Orchard Theatre By Annabelle Jain When most people think of Evita they think of the Oscar winning film starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas but the beauty of the story of Evita, as with most musicals, is best experienced in the theatre. That is definitely the case with the production currently at The Orchard. Whilst the draw for many people may be Marti Pellow Official as Che (yes, Wet, Wet, Wet’s Marti Pellow) the stand out star of the show was in fact Madalena Alberto who brings the character of Eva Peron to life with her stunning voice and impressive dancing ability. For those not already familiar Evita tells the story of Eva Peron, the wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, as her life goes from humble start through to riches, power and iconic status. Whilst you may not know the story chances are that you will know the songs which include Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, You Must Love Me and On This Night of a Thousand Stars. Evita is a wonderful story which is why it has won over 20 major awards in its time and this production is not one to miss. Although there seemed to be a few sounds issues in the first half of the show (it was opening night though, so no doubt they will be ironed out by tomorrow) the strength of the singing, acting and dancing shone through. If you have the chance I would definitely recommend a trip to The Orchard to see Evita, although when I last checked tickets were selling very well, so move quickly! Evita is currently at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford and will be there until Saturday 7th June.
