Show Selection Committee: Call for Applications The Orpheus Board of Directors is now accepting applications for the Show Selection Committee. This year marks a change in the structure of the SSC, so please read the following carefully. Orpheus has decided to change the SSC from an annual committee to a continuous committee with rolling membership. Under the new structure, the committee would be made up of eight members, each serving a four year term. Every year, two members would be replaced. The committee would operate continuously all year long, meeting as required. Along with this, we will be changing the date at which seasons are chosen to the September of the preceding season. These changes have been made for the following reasons: 1. We are trying to reduce the lead time between show selection and the actual season. This gives us a better opportunity to pick newer shows and have them on the stage as premiers. 2. We are trying to increase the time that the committee has to adequately review all potential shows. A continuously operating committee has the opportunity to investigate shows in detail, leading to a better informed decision. 3. We are trying to increase the continuity on the SSC so that we can create a more consistent season to season offering for the audience we are developing. The four year term insures that consistent decisions can be made over several seasons, while the rolling nature of the committee membership insures that new insight and direction can develop over time (no member may serve consecutive terms). As a result, we are looking for applications for all eight positions on the Show Selection Committee, to begin research into the 2016-2017 season. We are looking for people who are passionate about musical theater in all its elements (artistic as well as technical), have a deep dedication to Orpheus and a desire to contribute to the future of the Society in terms of artistic development and audience growth. As we are establishing the new structure, we will be appointing two members each for 1, 2, 3 and 4 year terms. Please include your preference with your application. Applications should include: • Why you want to be on the committee. • A brief opinion of where you think Orpheus should be headed in terms of artistic development as well as audience development, as related to show selection. • Your three favorite shows and the three shows you most think Orpheus should produce. • A brief theatrical resume. **Applications are due January 9, 2015 and should be sent to Vice-President (Show Operations), Steve Jones, [email protected].
